Homework due Monday 5/16/13

This picture has nothing to do with anything. I just find it hilarious.  Okay, onto your homework:

HOMEWORK:
Complete the Michigan Vocab/Reading Packet handed out in class.
Time yourself:  45 minutes to complete the entire thing.

Here's why:  During the Michigan Test, you'll have 75 minutes to complete 100 questions.  This is .75 minute per question.  Practicing under a time limit gives you a real feel for the test.  So, set your timer and take the test in a quiet place in your home.  Don't use a dictionary or the internet.  You want to get a good idea of how you'll do on the real test.

We'll go over the answers in class on Monday.

Your FINAL EXAM will be Tuesday in class.

Photo Manipulation Videos

Question for the blog:  Do you guys think manipulating how people look in magazine ads is good or bad? Why?

Homework due Thursday 5/9/13

Airbrushing

We're reading in our books about how images are manipulated in order to make us believe the altered--or changed picture--is the truth.  The above photograph is a fashion advertisement of American pop singer, Brittany Spears.  Can you see the differences?

Changing photos, especially in advertisements, is called Photoshopping, and it's often done to change how women's bodies look.

Here's an article from Jezebel.com that shows before and after photos of Victoria Secret models.  Can you see the differences?

Here's another example of a magazine cover called Redbook.   The original is on the left, and the photoshopped one is on the right.

Men are often airbrushed to look different as well.  Here's a model airbrushed to add more muscles and color change. Notice how his waist his smaller in the picture on the right.

HOMEWORK:
Reading:  "Main Ideas" & "Details" p. 96-97
